Have you ever been inside an authentic German bakery? There is absolutely nothing like it. I've been lucky enough to live near one for most of my life, and blessed to have even had the opportunity to travel to Germany years ago. German bakeries have a distinct smell about them--and they offer wonderful things, like lebkuchen, pfeffernusse, and stollen, not to mention the bread and pretzels. There are cookies and bear claw pastries and strudels. For me, just walking into a German bakery brings a sense of coziness and comfort.
In my region of Texas, there are several towns that were settled by German immigrants back in the 1800s, and that sense of heritage lives on in everything from the buildings to the shops and restaurants to the old-timers still speaking German in the coffee shops. I'm having a wonderful time writing the German Bakery cozy mystery series, inspired by all of these things! The books follow Fern Fischer and her best friend Elliot Schmitz as they stumble onto mysteries they can't help but try to solve. The close-knit town of Walnut Creek is full of quirky characters that will begin to feel like neighbors and friends as you move through the series. Books 1 and 2 are now available for pre-order at Amazon, and I'm about to turn book 3 over my publisher and the editorial team at Summer Prescott Books. If you're in the mood for a light holiday cozy, you'll love this series!

I couldn't be more excited! This book--a collaboration with the brilliant Nate Aubin--is my first foray as an author into paranormal cozy mysteries, and it was SO much fun to write! If you're also new to this sub-sub-genre, rest assured: this is a cozy mystery at heart. It has all of the elements we cozy fans love in our books: a small college town setting, a cute tea shop, a mysterious death, and a pair of amateur sleuths. Add to that some fun fantasy elements and an overarching system of magic, and you've got the makings of a mystery that is both intriguing and whimsical. I know you'll love it! Murder in the Leaves is the first book in the Grim & Cozy series, and is full to the brim with autumn vibes. Book two will be on the way before you know it--and is guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit!
